Current Feature Roast - LION-EL RICHY

Yirgacheffe Edido (G1 Specialty)

Hello…
Is it beans you’re looking for?

Meet Lion-el Richy, our tribute to Ethiopia — the place where coffee was first discovered and where the lion stands proudly as the national animal. We figured if you’re going back to the OG, you might as well dance on the ceiling while you’re at it.

This coffee comes from smallholder farmers in the village of Edido in Yirgacheffe. They bring their ripe cherries to nearby Aricha, where they’re dried naturally on raised beds under the sun — an old-school method that lets the juicy fruitiness do its thing. Lots of careful hands, lots of sunshine, no fancy machines. Easy like Sunday morning.

In the cup, you’ll get jasmine, peach, bright citrus, and sweet honey/panela, with just a hint of cardamom. It’s vibrant but balanced — nothing too wild — the kind of cup that’ll have you saying, “Oh what a feeling… when we’re brewin’ on the ceiling.”

And honestly? Once you try it, you may want to keep it All Night Long.

Really Cool Shit You Should Read About
  • The Yirgacheffe Edido G.1 Natural is not sourced from a single estate. Rather, it is produced by cooperatives of smallholder farmers in the Edido kebele (village), who collectively bring their harvested cherries to a handful of washing stations in the neighboring Aricha kebele. Both villages fall within the Bunna Woreda (coffee district) of Yirgacheffe, in Ethiopia’s Gedeo Zone.

For the majority of these smallholder farmers, the natural process is the preferred method of production. This approach reflects both cultural tradition—as natural processing is the oldest method of preparing coffee in the world—and practical considerations, including simplicity of infrastructure and accessibility for small farms. The cherries are carefully dried on raised beds under the sun, with frequent turning to ensure even drying and preservation of the beans’ intrinsic flavors. This meticulous attention at the producer level contributes to the coffee’s distinctive floral and fruity profile, characteristic of Yirgacheffe naturals.

  • We believe the best cup of coffee is the one you enjoy most. Everyone has their preferences - what’s delicious to one person might be just “meh” to another.

Based on what we love, we enjoy brewing these beans as Pour-Over & AeroPress. But we always recommend trying them with different methods to find what tastes best to you.
